I'm on Windows 10 and I have the latest MakeMKV. I received today an Asus BW-16D1HT drive. I followed MakeMKV's YouTube guide for flashing, so I went from 3.10 to MakeMKV's patched 3.10. I treated the drive as unencrypted.
After this flash, MakeMKV recognized the disc. (Schindler's list Blu-ray 4K 25th anniversary). MakeMKV showed the title, and I started the reading/opening disc process in MakeMKV. After several minutes, and many errors, it said "failed to open disc". After this, I restarted Windows 10 and tried again. Now neither Windows 10 nor MakeMKV will recognize the disc at all! They say it's empty. The disc is brand-new and not scratched. What can I do now? Thanks.

Re: ASUS BW-16D1HT stopped recognizing Blu-ray UHD disc
Restarted, or powered-off-then-rebooted?
Restarting doesn't force a hardware reset. Not all computers have a reset button anymore, so you have to power them down, wait 20 seconds or so, then power them back up, if you want to make sure the computer starts over completely.

I only restarted. You're right, powering off and rebooting did the trick - I think. It's ripping now, I'll see if it finishes successfully.
