Now that it is clear that the Shield/CX has a problem with DV, does it make sense to remux the DV releases to HDR10 (drop the EL+RPU layer)? Or is what we are seeing equivalent to HDR10, only labelled as DV?
while it's ignoring the EL, you are still getting dynamic HDR from the Shield. It's no better than HDR10plus and it's superior to HDR10.
But yes, because of the red push issue, I think HDR10 is better. Not anyone will notice the issue though, there are a couple of clowns on avsforum that say we are all crazy and that the red push does not exist.
So if you don't really care about color accuracy and losing FEL, the shield DV output is fine.

so if I understand correctly, with the x700 playing the m2ts file via usb, the subs for those Italian lines will not appear because they are not hardcoded? Hmm that could be troublesome... I remember in The Inglorious Bastards for example, there are lot of hardcoded subs for non-English lines. Not sure if those are hardcoded or not.
No, you didn't understand correctly. Any subtitles track on the x700 work but you just have to activate them manually.
The x700 file playback is just unable to detect the forced flags in the container therefore, cannot activate the subs automatically.
The need for manual activation of the correct sub-track with m2ts is pretty much a dealbreaker for me having lived in the world of carefully tagged mkv files with automatic sub activation via Kodi etc. But there is a scenario where I wonder if the m2ts approach would really fall over: titles where the forced subs are embedded in the main sub track, rather than in a separate dedicated track. Most titles use the dedicated track method. Game of Thrones (at least the bluray version) uses forced subs in the main track - when ripping, if you tick the forced box, you end up with an extra track from makemkv for many of the episodes. I don't know if the UHD discs are the same, but if GoT was converted to m2ts, I would expect that you would either have to watch with the full sub track on for all dialogue, or disable and miss the subs for all those "foreign language" scenes. I suppose one would have to do some extra processing to create another track just with the forced subs, then merge in? Seems like quite a lot of hassle?

Really, the only solution for all your problems is the chinoppo.
Well, how much cost the chinoppo? where can you buy it ? is it Cinavia free?
the x700 is only 240USD and can easily be bought on
amazon or less than 150USD used on
ebay
yes, cinavia free 350usd.
https://www.avpasion.com/foro/t/m9702-m ... 9702.2469/
it cost little more, but this box solves all your problems. and it's the best picture you can get on the market. (same oppo-203 quality)

Thank's
DV quality is the same on all the bluray players.
For SDR and HDR10, an HTPC with madvr gives the best quality.

I still have a few of there high end Blu-ray/iso player they were solid network players. TvLed /player led iso/Blu-ray & 4k uhd doblyvision & hdr10 plus.
https://www.dune-hd.com/collections/fro ... ifications
With this device u won’t have to load your bdmv in folders .
Or fiddle with fast forward or fast reverse.

Probably more important question is whether this dune can properly decode dual layer (single track or dual track) DV. Not sure if anyone actually has one in hand yet, but I'm guessing it'll be soon and then we'll see.

if he can play bdmv and iso, than he can play dual DV.

Not necessarily, bdmv and isos are backwards hdr10 compatible, so these Dunes can vary well be able to load the menus and play the movies, but at the same time not be able to decode DV and fallback to HDR10.

the specs says it's supporting dolby vision. i think it does. but the question is, is the extra money worth comparing with the chinoppo? 350usd vs 450usd (dune)

DV could be only supported for Streaming apps....
I really hope it supports dual-layer FEL + lossless audio with PLEX. If it does, I think I'm going to buy one.

Hoping I'm wrong but I noticed that this new Dune player has the same SoC (Realtek RTD1619) as the new Zidoo players, and those are only compatible with MEL. Who knows, but maybe it's a software/licensing limitation this time that the Dune guys have somehow gotten around.
