Problem Flashing BP55EB40

Post by 2Detox »

Hey Guys,

I'm new to this and I'm trying to flash my (external) LG BP55EB40 Delivered with 1.01 to the mk-firmware.
I tried flashing with the modded asus flasher but instantly after hitting start it ejects the tray and shows "Updating Failure #3".
I also tried flashing with the LG Flasher but it stays at 0% no matter how long I wait.
After researching I guess the issue is the fact that the drive is already running 1.01...

So I have a two questions:
- Am I able to flash to the mk-fw thorugh any given method(asus flasher, lg flasher, dosflash)?
- Is there a way to crossflash to a UHD friendly firmware ?

thx for any help in advance:)

Can you please post the output of makemkv for your drive?

The firmware in the pack says it needs to have service code -NB50. So older drives can't be flashed and there would be some danger to brick your drive.

Sometimes also the USB enclosures don't support flashing via USB.

As you can see there are 2 potential issues.

Hello Coopervid,

thx for your reply. Here is the ouput from makemkv:

Is the service code the "SVC" on the back? It says EB40. Manufactured in January 2018.

Ok I haven't tried it w/o the enclosure. Maybe I can dissamble it.

OK. The firmware date is November 2017 so it should be new enough to be UHD friendly and can most likely be flashed. The service code is somewhere on a sticker on the drive and should read BP55EEB40-NB50.
So if you take out the drive from the enclosure anyway you should see this and then you can attach it directly to a SATA port and try again to flash it.

Hello 2Detox,

Did you have any luck in flashing? I too have a BP55EB40 drive with SVC: EB40.
If so did you use the NB50 firmware, and how?

Hi guys,

What exactly did you try to flash to the drive? I have the same drive (EB40) but did not find anything for it. Only SVC: NB50.
I have the same drive as you guys, but with firmware 1.02.

Hi Ghostman,

I am a complete novice to this. But my firmware is also 1.02. But I've tried flashing with the unlocked ASUS flash tool from the thread here: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 16&t=18933, and using the 1.01 firmware for the BP55EB40-NB50. But I suspect that it might not work as the different service numbers might indicate that they are totally different. I really hope someone wiser than me knows what to do here. But there are many threads on these things, so I am hoping for the best.

Okay, just an update for those that might find it useful. I managed to flash the LG BP50NB40-NB50 1.02-MK to my BP55EB40 SVC: EB40. This was using the ASUS flasher, enabling LibreDrive for my drive.

One last update. I flashed the BP60NB10 1.00 Hybrid firmware to my BP55EB40 SVC: EB40 running the LG BP50NB40-NB50 1.02-MK. This made the drive UHD Friendly! I couldn't be more happy! All the firmware and the ASUS flasher used i found at: viewtopic.php?f=16&t=18933.

Good stuff!! I'm glad the hybrid firmware also works on this drive.

Enjoy! 8)

Hi PeterRatgen,

I followed your guide and did the same thing and everything seems to work. At least with normal blurays. I do not have any UHD ones yet. Big thanks for you and of course MartyMcNuts for providing such tools and firmware!

I received a BP55EB40 SVC: EB40 with firmware 1.02 today and did the same as PeterRatgen. After flashing the firmwares, I tested the drive with a UHD disc (Hong Kong release of Your Name) and MakeMKV ran the disc.

Thanks! :D

First of all thank you, everything worked fine for me, but it was not very easy to combine all informations in this board to get it working so i will summary it, maybe it is interesting for other people.

I bought the BP55EB40 - SVC: EB40 Build: 2020 with the actual firmware version 1.03.

As written from PeterRatgen, you can use this device with the hybrid firmware and then you can use uhd-bd with no problems. But first of all every flashing tool went to error. (cause of the encrypted firmware)

So you 1st have to use this guide (https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... t=lg+flash)
, section "How To Flash Videos and commands:") with the "enc" command and a fitting firmware, LG BP50NB40-NB50 1.02-MK for example. You get it from the MK pack in the "old/legacy" folder. (see same url as above, but section "Unlocked Flashers, Downgrade Enabled Firmware and MK Firmware")
The Problem: if you do not use the "enc" command, the flasher says also everything is ok, but nothing changed.

Later you can use the same tool to flash the hybrid firmware. The asus flash-tool in this link viewtopic.php?f=16&t=18933 doesn´t worked for me (error-5). Important now, that you must start the flash without "enc" cause the encryption is disabled. Use the firmware BP60NB10 1.00 Hybrid from the direct above link.

After this everything worked and i can now also read uhd-bd.
Thanks to everyone.

I know it's almost 2 years since the last reply, but I just flashed my BP55EB40 SVC: EB40 (FW 1.02) to be able to read UHD (PlayStation 5) discs. And the process have been made easier.

1. Download and install MakeMKV in the default location (https://www.makemkv.com/)
2. Download and extract "SDFtool Flasher" to a place of your choice (viewtopic.php?f=16&t=22896), the link is quite far down in the first post. Search for "Here is the link for the updated version of the SDFtool Flasher"
3. Download the MK firmware pack (viewtopic.php?f=19&t=19113), and extract the "BP60NB10" firmware (found in the "HL-DT-ST" folder) to the location of your choice. [NOTE: I did try with "BP55EB40-NB50" first, since that sounded like the obvious choice, but it didn't work for me.]
4. Run "SDFtool Flasher", select your drive, select your firmware from step 3, make sure you don't have a disc in, click "START". [NOTE: I don't actually know if you have to click on the "Encrypted" image or not]
5. Profit. If it still doesn't work, try step 4 again but click on the "Encrypted" image.
