The HDR10 plays without Errors.

If you play the EL alone (Ryan) on MPC you see the brightness flashing.

Don't know how the RPU can make the brightness pumping playing the DV without EL.

Buy private Ryan and test yourself! If U don't believe me.

With the new Firmware CX9 plays DV DL mp4. Tested with James Ryan.
I think it's a little dark.

edit:
it is the same as when I create a DV SL from Private Ryan -> it plays only BL+RPU, not the EL. Picture is falsified :x
I think that the TV is not able to decode 2x HEVC at the same time.

So the purchase of the UBK90 was not in vain :D
CX9? Do you mean the LG OLED CX or the LG OLED C9?

Can the UBK90 install apps like Emby or Plex to play DV mp4s over a network?

Wouldn't you be able to test if the CX can decode 2x HEVC at the same time by muxing a DV mp4 with the main HEVC from one film and the EL from a different film? I did this ages ago just to see what would happen, and the colours were all crazy when played on my C8. If you did this and it played with the crazy colours on both the UBK90 and the CX it would indicate the CX is decoding the EL. If it played crazy colours on the UBK90, but looked normal on the CX it would indicate the the CX is only playing the main stream.

Does that make sense, or is my thinking off?

It's not that I don't believe you, and I don't have a CX or UBK90 to test any way. I was just wondering if something else could be causing it other than the TV not decoding the EL.

I haven't looked at this stuff in a while, so I don't know what the RPU is or does - I'd never heard of it before reading your post. Does every DV Blu-Ray have an RPU?

...only the LG OLEDS (mixed report on the current X-generation ones) will be able to play FEL mp4s.

@shawnc22 are you able to elaborate at all, or provide a link to more information, about the compatibility of the LG OLED X-Generation?

I currently have a C8, but am looking at getting a CX. But I'll will think twice if it can't play these.

Thanks
It's mostly just reports from people on this forum who have said the CX hasnt been able to play DTDL mp4s, but that supposedly changed with the latest firmware. You'd have to ask people here who have that TV for confirmation.

Does UBK90 also support DTDL and lossless audio in m2ts?

It has a much better peak processing in HDR content compared to the C8.
Any proof on this? Because measurements show the CX have lower peak brightness in hdr compared to previous oled generations.

OLED77CX9LA

UBK90 -> i think not, only USB.

If you give me such a mp4 I´ll try!

I made 3 version of Ryan: DV DL, DV SL & HDR10: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1NK71Ck ... sp=sharing
you can try yourself

UBK90: DV DL correct, DV SL pumps
CX9LA: DV SL + DL much to dark + pumps.

m2ts/ts will be played in HDR10 + lossless audio.
DT = DV ?

DV without RPU is HDR10

DT - Dual track. Profile 7 from UHD disks have one track with base layer and another track with enhanced layer. I actually thought of asking whether it supports m2ts playback from USB. Sony's X700 and 800m2 supports them.

did you try my Ryan Samples?

UBK90 plays m2ts/ts/BluRay folder from USB only the BL HDR10 :-( no DV

I'll make one of these and provide a link, just having a little trouble at the moment though. Haven't used MP4Muxer in a while, and for some reason now it finishes "processing" immediately and just creates a 0KB file (no error messages) - so need to figure out that first. All I can think of is I would have upgraded Windows builds since I last used it. Weird.

Did you use tsMuxeR to mux the file to m2ts/ts? In order for the x700 to play Dolby Vision files they have to be muxed using tsMuxeR.
I've been using version nightly-2020-11-17--01-21-46:

https://bintray.com/justdan96/tsMuxer/t ... 1-46#files

I've just seen nightly releases have resumed over the last month but I haven't tested a version later than above.

OK, so this just seem to be a problem with The Invisible Man. This is a Universal release with FEL, but Back to the Future is also a Universal release with FEL and that processes fine.

Has anyone managed to create a DV mp4 of The Invisible Man?

Ok so I I ‘presumed’ a little,‘I have the C9 and that definitely has better peak processing than the C8 as it has a newer chip the 2nd gen a9 which was specifically implemented for that purpose and has been confirmed in reviews and also many times on the Calman forum.
The CX has the higher gen3 version of the a9, if it isn’t peak processing higher than the C8 then it must be down to the out of the box settings as I have never heard anyone say that on the Calman forums.

according to rtings:

C8 / C9 / CX

Image Image Image

peak brightness is better on C9 but overall the C8 seem brighter especially at 100%

My findings with latest LG (CX) firmware (3:21.09)

1- Demux layers from a UHD remux (BL , EL+RPU, AC3 Audio*)

2- (OPTIONAL) Reencode the BL layer (ffmpeg x265 & NO CROP !!!)

Code: Select all

ffmpeg.exe -i UHDREMUX.mkv -c:v libx265 -x265-params "level=5.1:colorprim=bt2020:colormatrix=bt2020nc:transfer=smpte2084:chromaloc=2:master-display=G(13250,34500)B(7500,3000)R(34000,16000)WP(15635,16450)L(40000000,50):max-cll=636,103:keyint_min=25" -crf 17 -preset medium -an BL.hevc
3- Remux (MP4Muxer_64bits.exe v:1.0.0) Reencoded BL layer + EL-RPU + AC3 layers into .MP4 file

Code: Select all

mp4muxer_64bits.exe --dv-profile 7 -i BL.h265 -i EL.h265 --dv-input-es-mode comb -i Audio.ac3 -o OUTPUT.mp4 --mpeg4-comp-brand mp42,iso6,isom,msdh,dby1 --overwrite
NOTE: --dv-input-es-mode split DID NOT PRODUCE A WORKING FILE WITH A REENCODED BL layer, --dv-input-es-mode comb DID WORK* WITH A REENCODED BL layer.

NOTE: You can demux previously muxed .mp4 DV files using the MP4Demuxer.exe.
ie:

Code: Select all

mp4demuxer.exe --input-file INPUT.mp4

Congratulations, you won a working Dolby Vision .MP4 file, 15GB instead of 75GB (tested with LG internal Plex app).

NOTE: If you have plenty of HD storage or/and just want to keep the original quality, omit the Reencoding part (step 2).

*ISSUES:

1- Seeking not working.
