Failure ripping any Blu-Ray on Linux

Post by faceless »

Hi there

I'm having repeated failures trying to rip Blu-Ray on Linux. Often I can fix this by constantly ejecting and re-inserting the disk, so in the past I'd put it down to scratches. But now I'm seeing this with a brand-new, just unboxed box-set of Pacific. OS is 64-bit Linux running 2.6.35 kernel, BD drive is "SAMSUNG DVDWBD SH-B083L SB00 PQ: 0 ANSI: 5".

Here's the error:

# makemkvcon info file:/dev/sr0
MakeMKV v1.6.3 linux(x64-release) started
Debug logging enabled, log will be saved as /root/MakeMKV_log.txt

I get an identical warning from disk 2 of the box set.

This is immediately after a reboot - as I said, I've had very similar messages from other disks (although I don't have the logs I'm afraid), but repeated attempts to eject and re-insert usually got it going. The drive itself is only a few months old - I replaced it due to errors with the previous drive (an iHOS104, WL06, max UDMA/100). Out of curiousity I've just plugged that one back in and I get exactly the same error, letter for letter.

Frankly, after trying two brand new disks and two different drives, I'm out of ideas. Please help.

Use

Code: Select all

makemkvcon info file:/dev/sr0

And why don't you use GUI makemkv?

I had exactly the same problem. I fixed this by recompiling makemkv and disabling direct disk access. I think one of the latest ubuntu updates (I suspect libc) broke makemkv. My env : 64-bit Linux running 2.6.35 kernel (Linux Mint), BD drive is LiteOn IHES208.

^you cant compile makemkvcon, it is distributed as a binary. you only compile the gui portion.
