I am new here and a noob on top of it. So if I am posting in the wrong place or asking the wrong questions kindly say so or move my post to the proper location.

On to the questions. Asus BW-161HT drive bought towards the end of 2015 or early 2016. The firmware is revision 1.01. Is there any benefit to upgrading?
Is it possible to find out if the rest of the mods on this site can be used without tearing the drive out and starting over?
I use the drive in a Mythtv setup. Some disks play without other effort others require VLC to play them. Will changing things make this less likely?

What does MakeMKV say about it when you open it? The LibreDrive section of the info window will tell you the main part of what you're asking.

If it says LD is active, you really don't need to do any more.

In very short, if you flash that drive with any firmware listed on this site you will brick the drive. Read that guide and buy a newer compatible drive if you wish to have UHD BD support.

Forum search will return many more discussion on that drive, its several revisions, and why older models/revisions of that same drive (like the one you have) will not work with UHD BDs if you wish to inform yourself more, as that horse has been beaten to death many times over in the past 3 years.

Second reply: Questions answered but at what cost? Original poster's self esteem is just shredded, any faith he had in the kindness of fellow 4K disc ripping enthusiasts is now completely gone, much like his self esteem.

>>I felt this way in the beginning and really wished the mods here would removed. Don't worry though they'll grow on you over time, like a fungus, and you'll see they're really not bad guys, just very committed (with at least one of them having BEEN committed in his younger yeaars

>>No one here is going to be able to tell you anything about the drive in a "MyThTV" other than it's probably about as useful as an ASUS BW16 made of the previous hardware.
