Compared to the cost of a decent 4k rig setup the cost of such an optical drive is just dust. My advice: Buy one of those LG based drives and move on.mmkav wrote: ↑Thu Jan 07, 2021 1:51 pmI know, but this platform RS1013, LibreDrive on it maybe in the future is discussed here in conjunction with HD DVD.
I posted my question here because I hope someone familiar with it has a recommendation for a newer firmware version and/or Cross Flash and can answer my question if HD DVD can be archieved by Cross Flash, I found info that it works for other models but no one confirmed or denied for this model.

That is not the point of this thread, I have the drive I mentioned (among others) and want to make the best of it, maybe in the future with LibreDrive and now with a Cross Flash if this makes sense.
Re: My poor ancient HD-DVD/BD Combo!
I have one of those RS1013 drives as well and interested.

Bump. Any updates on possible firmware mods for these drives? Be awesome to see libredrive, and HD DVD writing capability added to them. Thanks!
BTW, there's a brand new LG GGW-H20L dual HD DVD/Blu Ray drive on ebay right now:

Bump. Would love libredrive support for these drives.

LibreDrive won't gain you anything on a drive that is from 2014 or earlier, really. It's the ones built after 2015 where you might gain some functionality, and then only if it was a drive that supported UHD. My Pioneer drive (2015) had no functionality added to it.

It would allow you to play HD DVDs without searching for defunct software or using something like AnyDVD.Woodstock wrote: ↑Wed May 11, 2022 4:59 pmLibreDrive won't gain you anything on a drive that is from 2014 or earlier, really. Did you ever end up trying this? Any luck? I've got an SD-H903a also taken from one of those machines on the way and I'm not sure it'll work. You ever had any luck with the 912 burning anything? I'm really keen to burn actual HD-DVDs, and I have a lot blank media. I'd like to find the firmware for the 903 if possible, but it's not exactly easy. Any help you can give is great. As well, if you're willing to sell it, I'd totally buy your 912.Blackened2687 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 24, 2020 5:47 amBTW, I personally have Toshiba SD-H903A HD DVD-R drive pulled from Japanese standalone HD DVD-R recorder, but its command system appears to be incompatible with generic PC burning/reading software, the drive refuses to write anything except lead-in to HD DVD and, thus, corrupts the expensive and hard-to-find today HD DVD-R media. I wonder, if it's possible to do something about it?
Maybe it's possible to extract and patch its firmware to make it work on PC? I don't know, if the firmware dump from laptop HD DVD burner from Toshiba could help in this task. I have it myself, too (SD-L912A).

Late to the party but does the LG GBW H20L rip 4k Blu-Rays? It just needs to be flashed or cross flashed?
