If you are on the old FW still on your CX, could you please test the MP4\DTDL_021120 files that you can find at the bottom of this post https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 360#p97878 using the internal player from USB?

As I remember these two files did not play for me before the update, but now they are and triggering DV.

follow-up re p7 FEL on UHD discs:

I contacted a colleague who works in the industry and he contacted his Dolby contact. He stated that final color information in p7 FEL is 12bit 420, although he admitted that there's ongoing confusion about this (this person does not work directly on the DV en/decoding engine).

So for now, I'd assume color sampling is 12bit 420 indeed (not 12bit 422) and maybe Spears from S&M will add an image in the next S&M disc to verify this (as he mentioned on YT).

Rather sad, as even 10bit 422 would be more desirable than 12bit 420.

What’s the time duration on the shuttle scene?
I would like to try a fel comparison in rgb8 & LLDV for total recall using the x700.
Have you had the opportunity to make a comparison yet? :)

I'm glad you figure it out :D

Can you post the command lines for demuxing/remuxing? Thanks
for demuxing, you can simply use tsMuxer.
then mp4muxer:

Code: Select all

mp4muxer_64bits.exe --dv-profile 5 --input-file video.hevc --input-file audio.ec3 --output-file new.mp4
Thanks, but this ins't working here: I only got an empty file, it reads the 2 extracted tracks for 5 minutes for ~100 MB/s but it doesn't write out anything, no error message, no nothing.
(I tried out 4 times, tracks extracted by tsmuxer and dbl mp4demuxer.exe as well, used mp4muxer_64bits.exe from yusesope's post)

Don't we need other params for it?

Edit: worked finally for the 5th time (I used the mpeg4-comp-brand flag as well, dunno whether this helped or not), but the whole process lasted more than 30 minutes for whatever reason (it read the 2 demuxed files for 5 minutes, then did something for 20 (?) minutes without any disk activity, then it wrote out the whole file in once for another 5 mins). So, thank you for the help.
Here are the steps using dlb tools:

Demux:

Code: Select all

mp4demuxer.exe --input-file foo.mp4 --output-folder tmp
Remux:

Code: Select all

mp4muxer_64bits.exe --dv-profile 5 --input-file out_1.h265 --input-file out_2.ac3 --mpeg4-comp-brand mp42,iso6,isom,msdh,dby1 --output-file try.mp4

It can very well be saving everything into memory and then dumping it all onto disk once it's finished processing. A progress counter definitely would've been nice, though.

I did pretty hard to compare the scenes doe it’s mostly red.

On a diff topic profile 5 funky colors.
Capture purple/green colors which are permanent, to 4:22 pq rencode with Rpu bin
From original & rencode staxrip
Produce a perfect profile 5
Tested playback dv-rgb8
Test file meridian Netflix

I checked out this thread early on (in the first 10 or so pages) and had success in remuxing DV to MP4, it's been a while and was wondering if anything had changed (without reading all 275 pages).

1. Is this still the only tool that can do this, and when was the last time it was updated?

2. Is there any way to put chapters in? I've downloaded some DV rips that seem to have chapters, but I don't know how to do this with my own DV rips.

3. Are we still limited to AC3 audio?

4. Are there any free tools available now that will encode as EAC3 7.1 channel when converting from Dolby TrueHD 7.1 or DTS-MA 7.1? Or are we still limited to downmixing to 5.1 channel EAC3 encoding?

Thanks

...only the LG OLEDS (mixed report on the current X-generation ones) will be able to play FEL mp4s.

@shawnc22 are you able to elaborate at all, or provide a link to more information, about the compatibility of the LG OLED X-Generation?

I currently have a C8, but am looking at getting a CX. But I'll will think twice if it can't play these.

Thanks

Hi, I wouldn’t NOT get a CX just because it may not play dual layer mp4 files.
It has a much better peak processing in HDR content compared to the C8.

With the new Firmware CX9 plays DV DL mp4. Tested with James Ryan.
I think it's a little dark.

edit:
it is the same as when I create a DV SL from Private Ryan -> it plays only BL+RPU, not the EL. Picture is falsified :x
I think that the TV is not able to decode 2x HEVC at the same time.

So the purchase of the UBK90 was not in vain :D

Of course it can physically play dual hevc streams. Are you sure you have the same picture setting for Dolby vision over media player as you do for HDMI input?

100% Sure.

In (rare) films with FEL, such as Private Ryan, omitting the EL leads to errors. In this case, the brightness pumps into bright scenes and dark scenes are far too dark. Otherwise I might not have noticed.

where do you get the information from that it can play 2x hevc?

But wouldn't leaving out the EL just make it play exactly as it would on any TV/player that doesn't support DV? So does that mean in rare cases like Private Ryan even the original UHD Blu-Ray will only play properly on DV capable equipment? That sort of thing shouldn't happen should it?
