Merging multi disc Dolby Vision movies

Post by robosledger »

Hello all,

I’m playing my movie files through my Oppo 203. The Oppo only supports Dolby Vision playback when the BDMV folders are placed within an AVCHD folder. To accomplish this, I’ve used the Backup feature in MakeMKV. The Oppo will not play Dolby Vision from a mkv file.

My goal is to play the LOTR movies without an interruption between discs. What I have is a folder structure as follows Movie Title (movie year)> Disc 1> ACVHD>BDMV. I also have the same structure for Disc 2 under the same main movie folder. The Oppo plays Dolby Vision flawlessly this way.

My question is, Is there an easy way to merge a two disc movie with Dolby Vision backed up to the disc folder structure so that disc 2 plays automatically after disc 1. As it is, after disc 1 ends I have to manually browse to disc 2 on the network and play it manually.

Thanks!

Some discussion of this occurred in the main LOTR/Hobbit thread: viewtopic.php?p=100657#p100657

Thanks Preserve. I read through some of that post, but it seemed to pertain to mkv’s. I’ll read through it.

Ah, right, yeah I think what you're looking to do is a bit more complex and playback device specific. As it's a good general topic on an advanced subject, hopefully some others will chime in here.

Since a Blu-ray is generally just a playlist of segments… I wonder if you could hack it together by concatenating the relevant disc 2 segments onto the end of the last segment of disc 1? I have no idea if this would work; I'm just guessing.

Can you use the latest nightly build of tsmuxer to join the relevent .m2ts files from both discs and produce a Blu-ray folder as the output to play on the Oppo?

That’s a very interesting thought. I’m going to experiment, and see what happens. Thanks!

Thanks! Great idea. I’ll give this a shot. I had previously appended disc 2 to disc 1 into one mkv file. It worked, but the problem was the Oppo doesn’t support Dolby Vision in an mkv file alon. I’ll play around with it in tsmuxer and see if I can produce the files in the folder structure.
