Hello,
I don't know if the message is for me, but apparently Gemini man is engraved on a double layer BR considering the size of the file, but I don't know anything about dolby vision.
In any case in reading with my nvidia pro, it is impeccable, normal: FPS at 60im / sec and flow rate at 83mb / s.
Below are the characteristics of the file :

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1
Does anyone have a copy of yusesope's modified exoplayer apk? He originally posted it way back here: https://www.makemkv.com/forum/viewtopic ... 077#p94077 but that and all other "WeTransfer" links are now dead. I really want to try it out on my Shield!

However, I am not able to play anything using ExoPlayer in Kodi. Here is what I did -
1. Long press a video file in Files section
2. Select "Play using..." and then select ExoPlayer
3. Get a prompt "External player active... click ok when playback has ended"
But nothing plays. Whether I press "Ok" or wait or press Play/Pause button. Kodi can play the MKV in HDR though and MediaInfo shows Dolby Vision, Version 1.0, dvhe.07.06, BL+EL+RPU, Blu-ray compatible / SMPTE ST 2086, HDR10 compatible
Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1
BTW, I am running Kodi 18.9 on 2019 Shield with 8.2.1. Thanks!
Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1
I'm in the same boat, I've got a dual-layer MP4 but it won't trigger dolby vision, even when I open with that ExoPlayer APK directly

I am on the same boat, recently got a Shield Pro 2019, got Kodi 18.9, etc, followed the guide steps throughly, but it always says "playback failed.".. no matter how much I try.
But the player itself is fine, because I open the aplication out of Kodi and the demos it comes with play and trigger DV fine.

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1
I never got the "Playback failed" message, just the "External player active" message though no player was really playing the samples. I tried with the latest Kodi 19 beta 2 and still no luck. Moved then to Plex and had some success. Here is how my setup looks for Plex -
Shield Pro > Device Preferences > Display & Sound > Resolution: 4K @23.976Hz / Dolby Vision and HDR10 Ready
Plex > Settings > Advanced > Refresh Rate Switching: OFF
I am now able to play both DV 60Hz and 24Hz material on my 2016 OLED using Plex.

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1
Over a year later and I still see tons of issues with DV playback on Shield and tons of hoops to get it to run. While the X700 still plays UHD rips and tsmuxer muxed to .TS, for less money. Any smart TV has plex/kodi/dlna apps... I just don't see the appeal for spending $200 on a device that requires so many hurdles to go through to get DV and can't even play bluray disks. Smart TVs already have apps. Why is the shield so praised then?

Re: Dolby Vision and 1.15.1
People like to focus on DV, but lossless audio is just as crucial, and you’re never going to get that support from a smart TV. Just because the same apps exists does not mean they function in the same manner as the Shield. The current workflow is just rip with makemkv 1.15.4 and you’re good to go. That’s not a lot of hoops to jump through, and most people will take this simplicity over the flaws in the picture accuracy.bgalakazam wrote: ↑Thu Dec 24, 2020 9:45 amOver a year later and I still see tons of issues with DV playback on Shield and tons of hoops to get it to run.
