Interesting.... I powercycled the gorram blu-ray drive and reloaded makemkv and now it's ripping the disc.

It's an indication of a damaged disc or bad drive.

The disc passed visual inspection with 99%+ perfection - a few pieces of surface dust, no scratches at all. As I supplemented shortly after the first post, power-cycling the blu-ray drive and restarting MakeMKV solved the problem. It might be nice of MakeMKV to know about such things and just make that suggestion upon finding these kinds of errors. Heck, maybe the program could power-cycle the drive automagically and then try to rip the disc again!
