LG BU40N, UHD Official Internal Slim Sata 9.5mm in a Vantec NST-510S3-BK 9.5mm slim sata case. Connected directly to USB 3.0 port on Mac mini.

Flashed with MK/HL-DT-ST/BU40N-N-Main/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-NM00500-212005061142.bin from mk-firmware-pack-20200720.zip, using the MakeMKV sdftool from the app

Drive works fine for DVD & Blu-Ray. Can't seem to read UHD. After 12+ minutes of the drive thrashing around, changing speeds, I get (several more lines of the Scsi error lines than below):

Code: Select all

Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:COPY PROTECTION KEY EXCHANGE FAILURE - KEY NOT PRESENT' occurred while issuing SCSI command A40..0020..0FF to device 'IoKit:/IOBDServices/3917BD2D'

Can't read AACS VID from disc - most likely current AACS host certificate is revoked by your drive
Saved AACS dump file as /Volumes/Media/MakeMKV Data/MKB20_v61_E_T_The_Extra-Terrestrial_2A6F.tgz
LibreDrive compatible drive is required to open this disc - video can't be decrypted.
Failed to open disc
I can move the disc to a 5 1/4" desktop drive and read it just fine (disc is ok). I've tried multiple 4K UHD Discs. Some screenshots attached.

What am I missing with this drive?!?!?

Thanks,
Frank

Thanks - I'm using a Mac & the USB ports generally offer plenty of power for anything (more than the typical PC). It's showing 900 mA available. I'll find a powered hub, or the "Y" cable that came with the drive chassis and see if that helps.

Thanks,
Frank

I found the Y-USB cable that has two USB-A connectors (came with the drive chassis) - PROBLEM SOLVED! Thanks!

I guess it takes more power to read 4K UHD vs. DVD/Blu-Ray?!?!?! I wonder why?

One more quick question - for future firmwares updates, do I still have to use the "enc" option for encrypted firmware?

Thanks,
Frank

I cannot seem to make the sdftool to work - tried the same syntax as you but I only get:

-bash: sdftool: command not found

What is wrong? Do you have perhaps a 101-instruction? ;) Or is there an interface in the meantime to flash with MacOS?

Here the drive info:

You need to provide the full command line you attempted to use. You probably left the path off the command line. Where is the sdftool located (on a Mac, it's normally in the MakeMKV app, located in /Applications)? Where do you have MakeMKV installed? What is your current directory (type `pwd` to find out)?

You forgot to include the command line you used to try & flash the drive. Copy/paste what you typed into the terminal when you tried to flash the drive. You probably left off a "./" at the beginning, which indicates the sdftool is in your current directory.

If you stay in the directory you showed above, inside the MakeMKV app, you would start the command line with `./sdftool ` and add the rest of the command line options for your drive.

Hmm... now I'm not sure which file to choose as I probably should downgrade from 1.01 to 1.00 - there seems not to be any 1.00 binary...

Any ideas?

Not me - my knowledge comes from others in this forum, who are much more knowledgable. Maybe search for another thread with your drive, or start a new thread and specifically ask what firmware for your drive.
