BD-RE BH16NS40 1.01, MT 1939, and new firmware

Post by aragon » Sun Dec 13, 2020 2:54 pm

HI:

I would like to confirm one thing, to avoid future problems.
I have a BD-RE BH16NS40, Revision 1.01, Year March 2014, and the makemkv says:
Drive platform: MT1939
Firmware type: Original (unpatched)

I bought a UHD disk and I try to see if the BR detect it but nothing. Looks empty after some spin.

Regarding what I read here for this device is not a good idea to put a new firmware, right? If so I can brick it.

With my best regards

You are correct. Go no further. Drive HW is too old for UHD & as capable as it's gonna get.

Thank you for doing some up front research. Too many just jump in without understanding what they are doing, don't ask & end up w/ a brick. Potential disaster averted.
