My LG NS60 arrived. It is a 5/2020 manufacture date with 1.02 ROM and SVC CODE NS60.
Question 1: Based on the mfr date, rom, and svc code, is there anything I should worry about before attempting flash?
Question 2: This guide recommends I flash to 1.02 MK but the MK pack has the 1.03 MK firmware in the HL-DT-ST folder, and the 1.02 MK firmware in the "old" folder... should I be flashing to the "old" 1.02 MK ?
I'm in the same boat with regards to Question 2. The guide recommends 1.02MK, but the firmware included is
Code: Select all
HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.03-NM00600-212005081010.bin
. It's in the MK subfolder, so I assume it's MK firmware, but there's nothing in the filename to indicate that it is, and with the version mismatch, I wanted to double-check before I did any flashing.

Yes, just grab the 1.02 firmware from the old folder. That is what I used to cross flash my BH16NS55.

WH16NS60 1.02 should be in the MK\old folder
Cheers

Thanks very much. I've tried 1.02 but I'm also having issues.
However,
this thread seems to indicate a bug with MakeMKV (?) that is hopefully fixed with 1.154.4.

A big thanks to everyone who replied. I uploaded the WH16NS60 1.02 firmware from the /old/ subfolder as suggested here, and not only is it faster, it solved the problem (at least for now) with my drive randomly deciding to go non-responsive in the middle of reading a disc and require a complete PC reboot to fix.

I just bought an LG BH16NS55 today, manufactured March 2020 with a 1.04 FW, is this viable for flashing or should i try one of the other models?
I'm kinda new at this downgrading, but from what i read on the first page of this thread it should be possible no?

Ignore the MacOS reference if you run Windows, but the MakeMKV output will tell you it's possible. 1st post in the thread provides all you need.

In a word, yes.
Flash the MK version of 1.04, then you can cross flash if you want to.

I have an early macbook pro 2011. I took out the optical drive at the time and replaced it with a 2nd hard drive. Now that i'm backing up my collection, I was thinking of throwing in an internal optical drive.
I was looking at the supported drives on p. 1 of this thread and saw the bu40n, a 9.5mm drive.
Would the LG BU40N work? would it be compatible with macOS?
I figured i could add this and also upgrade the SSD on this as well. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you.
BU40N will not work *in* a MacBook Pro, as drive is a tray load. You need a slot load like Matshita / Panasonic UJ-267. (I have a UJ-267 in my 2012 MBP and a BU40N in an external USB3 enclosure that I'm struggling to flash.)

I have a Asus BW-16D1HT that has 3.00 FW, what's the advantage to updating the FW to Asus BW-16D1HT 3.10MK?
Here's what MakeMKV reports about my drive.

An external optical drive will work just fine on a Mac, however. Probably easier than jamming one into a laptop.

Thanks, I asked because I use the latest Win 10 from October 2020. Any known problems with the latest Win 10?
>>Nope
I remember, that SDFtool Flasher does cross flashing to LG? And at another place I read crossflashing is not recommended.
Is the needed firmware included already or do I have to download from another place, if so where?

Very little... 3.10-MK is a little faster. That's about it.

Hey guys,
I just bought a BH16NS55 with 1.03 firmware. What exactly are my options for UHD support?
I think this is all very confusing.
In the pack there are following options:
- BH16NS55 1.05
- WH16NS60 1.03
- (old) BH16NS55 1.03
- (old) BH16NS55 1.04
- (old) WH16NS60 1.01
- (old) WH16NS60 1.02
In the first post there is the WH16NS60 1.02 mentioned as recommended. But there are new versions?
