Duplicate Video Files

Post by LampyMcMuffin » Sun Dec 06, 2020 2:46 pm

When I ripped one of my Lord of the Rings UHD BluRays I saw that it had two of the exact same video files on it. I ripped both of them and sure enough, when I check the VLC codec information, they are exactly the same. Any idea why this may be or if I need both files?

Different language credits?
Sometimes the credited people are in a different order.

From the stickied FAQ:

- If the disc has multiple cuts, such as theatrical vs extended.
- One may be the mpls playlist with chapters, the other the m2ts source file.
- Disney discs will have multiple titles where the difference is localization for the titles and credits. English will be 800, other languages will be 801, 802, etc. (Some older discs might be something like 200, 201, 202, etc.)
- Some discs have one playlist for English/French/Spanish/etc, and a second playlist for English/Japanese.
