In case one has to RMA a dead drive that came with 1.04
If it needs RMAing, just put 1.05 on it.

I didn't see 1.05 listed on the LG website. Is there an factory download location for it? Thanks.

You could just use the MK version of 1.05. LG don't seem to have downloadable firmwares anymore. I think they have an update tool that can update the firmware from their servers.
Cheers

My LG NS60 arrived. It is a 5/2020 manufacture date with 1.02 ROM and SVC CODE NS60.
Question 1: Based on the mfr date, rom, and svc code, is there anything I should worry about before attempting flash?
Question 2: This guide recommends I flash to 1.02 MK but the MK pack has the 1.03 MK firmware in the HL-DT-ST folder, and the 1.02 MK firmware in the "old" folder... should I be flashing to the "old" 1.02 MK ?

I have a LG WH14NS40 with firmware 1.05. I have tried to change the firmware using the command prompt process to change the firmware to each of the following but nothing seems to change even thought the process seems to complete.
MK\old\HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH14NS40-NS50-1.03-NM00600-211711211658.bin
MK\HL-DT-ST\WH14NS40-NS50\HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH14NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900-212005061444.bin
MK\HL-DT-ST\WH16NS60\HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.03-NM00600-212005081010.bin
MK\old\HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.02-NM00100-211810291936.bin
Please help as my read speeds are slow.

Question about drive flashing. I'm running a WH14NS40 drive. According to MakeMKV I'm already at revision 1.02, however the recommended firmware thread suggests:
WH14NS40 > WH16NS60 1.02 MK
I believe I used the tool correctly, but MakeMKV still shows the drive as WH14NS40 and lists Firmware type as "Original (Unpatched)" so is that correct? I'm still running into issue where only some UHD will rip/copy. It continues to be a DEBUG Code Error.

It continues to be a DEBUG Code Error.

you didnt flash it to WH16NS60 but that does not really matter for read errors the NS60 firmware just reads faster and has no sleepbug. you have either a bad disc or bad drive.
try
clean disk
new disc
optional clean laser
new drive

I'm wondering if the drive is the issue. This is my third brand new UHD disc I bought on Black Friday and only 1 of them ripped. I'll try cleaning first and then a new drive. Thanks for the info!

I've been using an LG WH16NS40 for a while and I think it's dying. It's making a terrible grinding noise and MakeMKV is reporting hash errors.
I've ordered a replacement from Amazon (same model) so as long as it has SVC50 (or higher) and MT1959 I should be OK, right?
Also, which firmware is recommend to flash? The original post says "1.02MK" but I'm guessing this has the sleep bug?

The guide recomends WH16
NS60 1.02MK. There is no sleep bug in "official" UHD drive firmware.
Cheers

Oh, sorry ... I think I understand now.
The LG WH16NS40 is "UHD Friendly" but is recommended to cross-flash (?) to LG WH16NS60 which is "UHD Official" (and therefore doesn't have the sleep bug).
By the way, I seem to remember when I first flashed my WH16NS40 that you had to extract drive-specific calibration (?) values before you cross-flashed a different firmware. Do the new flashing utilities also take care of this automatically?

Yep, no need to do any of that if you use a windows flasher.

I recently bought a WH16NS40 NS50 drive, that I've installed internally in a Windows 10 system. I'd like to be able to rip 4K discs as well as burn CD/DVD/Blu-ray discs. While for ripping I'll mostly be using MakeMKV, I'd like the option to use other programs as well.
To this end, what's the best firmware for these purposes, using SDFtool? Does the WH16NS60 1.02MK firmware from the first post prevent any of my above requirements?
If I need a different firmware, would I instead flash 'HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BH16NS40-NS50-1.04-NM01701-211901041338'? If so, do I then leave it on that firmware or flash another one after such as 'HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.03-NM00600-211711211653'?
I appreciate any assistance!
The drive details are:
Drive Information
OS device name: D:
Manufacturer: HL-DT-ST
Product: BD-RE WH16NS40
Revision: 1.04
Serial number: <removed>
Firmware date: 2119-01-04 13:48
Bus encryption flags: 17
LibreDrive Information
Status: Possible, not yet enabled
Drive platform: MT1959

I've also just purchased a replacement LG WH16NS40 drive and it came with v1.04 firmware.
I'm not sure if I did the correct procedure, but I first flashed
HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS40-NS50-1.05-NM00900-212005061440 and then cross-flashed to
HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_WH16NS60-1.03-NM00600-212005081010.
The original post recommends LG WH16NS60 v1.02, but it looks like only v1.03 is available in the MK pack.
I'm not sure if it's related, but I'm getting lots of corrupt file errors on this brand new drive and brand new discs (see
this thread).
EDIT: I've tried to rip my second disc (Coco UHD) and it didn't have corruption errors, but had about 10x "AV sync issues" ?
