I've been using MKV for a while now to rip my library. However I'm having difficulty with the following titles:

• * Julie & Julia (2009)
  *So I married an Axe Murderer

After ripping these to mv4, there are dead spots in the audio in the resulting mkv file. By "dead" I mean that the audio cuts out for a few seconds randomly

What are you playing the files on that has problems with the audio? Is your player compatible with the audio format chosen?

Thanks for pointing out my error. I'm ripping BluRay to MKV and then using Handbrake to convert to MP4. The audio drops occur in both MKV and MP4 files. I'm using the Mac Blu-Ray Player to play both MKV and MP4 on my macbook. I'm beginning to wonder if the MKV and MP4 files are fine and that the real problem lies with the Blu-Ray Player.

You could go into preferences and check 'show AV Synchronization Messages' and see if that tells us anything interesting. But Julie and Julia has been around for a while and I doubt no one would have noticed gaps in the audio.

If you suspect the player, go to videolan.org and download VLC for the Mac. It won't play EVERYTHING, but it will come closer than most applications.
