As the title says, anything with LPCM selected automatically fails with the latest version. This has happened on 3 different discs so far. Disappointing

Wow, thanks for pointing that out. I thought my discs were faulty.
So, issue confirmed here too, on latest version.

Same here. Hildalgo with LPCM 5.1 fails on 8.12. Rip works on 8.11

Glad I found this thread, otherwise I wouldn't have thought to disable certain audio tracks. Voila, it worked! I can only hope the other discs that were having the same symptoms have usable alternative tracks.
The failure case is very uninformative. Normally, the log just says:
Saving 1 titles into directory /home/micah/rip-dest
Failed to save title 0 to file /home/micah/rip-dest/title00.mkv
Which makes it seem like a disk or permissions problem. With debug enabled, there's the additional:
Saving 1 titles into directory /home/micah/rip-dest
DEBUG: Code 0 at 8'[{tp{.p&:CE''0Eky':121268535
DEBUG: Code 0 at i#=|%ltxhzS)`m~:121264717
DEBUG: Code 131072 at t46nq,(Vf/47<47GI`:121264280
DEBUG: Code 0 at t46nq,(Vf/47<47GI`:213134469
DEBUG: Code 0 at t46nq,(Vf/47<47GI`:121267914
DEBUG: Code 0 at t46nq,(Vf/47<47GI`:213136792
Failed to save title 0 to file /home/micah/rip-dest/title00.mkv
if that helps at all. I have zero ability to decipher that, and I halfway suspect it's unrelated to my problem in any case.
Just silent, unhelpful failure. It'd be nice to at least get a diagnostic, or a message that it can't convert those audio tracks. Ideally, they should be deselected (with a warning, especially in the case that no alternative audio tracks in the same language are available).
Of course, best case would be to fix it so they do indeed convert.
Is it a matter of getting a different build of some audio conversion tool or library, or switching which one is used?
In my case, I'm using MakeMKV 1.8.12 for 64-bit Linux.
Thanks for this fantastic product! Not yet registered, but expect to do so within a few days. I'll definitely use it plenty.

why not use makemkv to convert the LPCM to FLAC when ripping the disc?
Seems like a total waste of space keeping the LPCM uncompressed.

Because the problem occurs while reading the LPCM, not writing it.

Ahh now i follow, i just came across one of these discs today.
I have installed 1.8.11 and 1.8.12 in separate folders so i can switch between them when I encounter LPCM.

Stereo LPCM works just fine, it's just the surround sound variants you need to be weary of.
By the way, my WDTV Live SMP goes spastic trying to play 24 bit FLAC. Sometimes there are very good reasons for keeping PCM audio.

top marks to the original poster, just took delivery of my new external LG Blu ray/3D blu ray writer for ripping all my Blu rays for my new nas etc, and thought i had bought a massive DUD!!! after getting the same failures! glad i come here to find out what the problem is
i am running the latest Makemkv ver 1.8.12, but just installed old version 1.8.4 and it doesnt like LPCM either
dont know how many titles i own that have it, but guess will just have to live with DD 5.1 on those films

Can confirm this issue on 1.8.12 on Linux x64 also.
Further, I am certain that one particular Blu-Ray (Memento) was able to rip with 1.8.11 but fails with 12.

It looks as thought the code that checks the LPCM bit-depths in each of the M2TS files that make up a title fails when confronted with surround sound audio. The bug it's likely to exist in all versions of 1.8.12.
If you're talking about the original Momento Blu Ray release then it does indeed have 5.1 LPCM and would be affected by this bug.

Well, I'm trying to rip Kill Bill Vol.1
I was running 1.89... it failed
updated to 1.8.12... it failed... that is when I found this thread.
Tried 1.8.11 like someone suggested... fail
went way back to 1.7.9 and 1.8.0... didn't even have the encryption codes that far back
1.8.5 didn't work
Currently trying 1.8.7... hopefully this one does it.... bedtime. I'll find out when I wake up.
I guess the big question is why have so many versions failed with the LPCM audio for me?
I just ripped a few other blu rays in the past week but this is the first with LPCM.... so based on that and the recent threads I'm assuming that is the issue.
