I am having a problem MAKEMKV latest version reporting the wrong audio description.

Blu-Rays with TrueHD or DTS-MA display as Surround 5.1.

See the difference between the to screenshots from VLC using the same movie but on was created with makemkv 1.6 and the other with 1.8. On the older version of makemkv the audio description used to be correct, but the new version is wrong.

Same movie, with same setting, just different version of makemkv.

Is there a way to fix this issue?

The audio naming scheme changed in 1.8.9 - it used to be codec-specific: for DTS it would put something like 3/2+1, and for TrueHD it would put "7.0"). With 1.8.9 the same naming logic is used for all tracks. Codec name is no longer part of track name. In your case you should get "Surround 5.1" for core track and "Surround 7.1" for the main track. Also, please specify what OS are you using.

I am using 1.8.9 under MAC OSX 10.9.2.

Do you know why some Blurays are reporting the wrong Codec. For example Gravity shows as DTS-HD MA Surround 5.1 and it should be 7.1?

Also, would it be possible to use the Codec Name for the track name? For example: If the main track codec is DTS-HD MA Surround 7.1. Could you use that name for the track name instead of Surround 7.1. It is helpful for later identification when using a player. I know we can change the name, which is what I am doing now, but I have to basically rename all the tracks to match the codec name. It would be a nice way to save time.

Finally; What do you recommend I can use to rename tracks for files already created? I've read about people doing this, but damaging the actual file.

MKVToolnix's header editor only changes the metadata so you don't have to remux the entire file.

Thanks Chetwood, I was thinking about the same tool, but I got concerned with some of the posts on the site regarding damaged files.

I'll go ahead and use that.
