Never ripped a dvd before need basic help

I have never used a program to rip a dvd. Can anyone offer me the basics to ripping and burning dvd's?
With MakeMKV, the basics of ripping are:
Start MakeMKV.
Insert disk.
Click on big icon on MakeMKV screen when the image stops spinning.
Wait for MakeMKV to open the disk and display its contents.
Select the titles you want to rip, and chose a location to rip them to.
Click button to start rip.
Now, there is a lot more that CAN be done, but those will get the data off the disk and into your computer.
BURNING DVDs is a completely different subject.
