Is ripping fine, then partway thru will be at 0.0x a while

Almost every time I rip a blu ray it will stop partway through and be at 0.0x for a while while making a bunch of whirring noises. Almost as if it's come to some "tough" part in the rip process. Then for no reason after a few minutes, will start back up again and finish fine. Is this something that comes with the layer change or some sort of error? Would be nice to eliminate this as sometimes i am waiting for the movie to finish so i can watch it.
