Dust Devil (1992)

Hello

I received my copy of Dust Devil 1992 from Umbrella (Australia) directly. I watched the 4K on my TV, however I am unable to play or rip the included Blu-Ray copy on my Windows PC. Anyone else having this issue?

This indicates that MakeMKV was unable to contact the server where the HK (Hash Key) database is stored, so it was unable to look up whether or not the disk you're loading is known or not. So, you're limited to what is on your machine right now.

You can look at why you cannot contact the server separately, but it usually is being blocked by your internet provider. There are a couple of topics here that deal with that...

Short of contacting the server, you can use the keydb database; this is a separate table, maintained by people other than Mike (the MakeMKV author) which has decryption information for a LOT of disks. Not everything, but a LOT of them. But downloading it is not automatic, and pretty much anything with "MKB_v82" in the dump file name will require either MakeMKV or keydb to have encountered the disk before.

There is a topic here that discusses the keydb database, how to use it and contribute to it, but that's separate.

@Woodstock I can now confirm it was my VPN causing the issue, I assume the requests were being blocked. I would have never guessed it, thank you again for the enlightenment.

For what it is worth, I have an entry in my HOSTS file to decode the link for when I encounter a blocking DNS. It works most of the time, and I can comment it out (details in one of the previous topics) when I'm paranoid about it.
