Overseas Blu-Ray not ripping

Greetings, and sorry in advance if this is another instance of the same question being asked again.
I took a trip to Japan and bought some blu-rays while over there. So far, I've ripped most of them no problem. Now, I'm trying to rip discs that came in a boxset. Disc 1 didn't rip. Fine, I've had that happen before and it sucks, so I move on. I try Disc 6. Disc 6 doesn't work. Now I'm wondering if it's a region issue, not a disc or drive issue.
Would a foreign blu-ray not rip like a U.S. one would? All the others I've tried so far haven't been an issue. The disc won't even open in PowerDVD, which I've used to check if discs work before. Is there someway to tell if this is a specific type of blu-ray disc that needs a very specific method of ripping?
Thanks in advance.

MakeMKV doesn't care about region coding and removes/ignores it when ripping so that is not an issue. Did you try cleaning the discs?
You really should copy and paste the log window text when the rip fails as we can't help you if we don't know what the errors are.

I didn't try cleaning however they seemed clean and scratch free, which I know from the main "rip error" thread doesn't necessarily mean they aren't "bad".
I don't have the log on me now, but I believe it was "Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR"
My main concern is that it happened to more than one disc out of a box set of six, which is why I'm wondering if it's a region thing which it shouldn't be because I've ripped foreign discs before.
Another thing of note is that when I would start the rip, it took a very long time for the lower bar to make any progress before failing (if that makes sense).

Yep, those errors mean the drive is having trouble reading the disc. Clean them!! Even if pristine, give'em a good clean. It is not a region issue. MakeMKV doesn't care about regions.

No harm in trying I suppose. I'll give it a try and report back. Thanks!
