USB Drive with Blu-ray disk stuck on "Disk is being loaded"

Hi there,
I would like to have some assistance with my problem. I checked the FAQ and the "common problems" section, and I searched this forum for similar entries, but I found only one where the solution of OP was to "use another computer", which isn't really helpful for me
I compiled and installed MakeMKV for linux v1.18.2 as described in viewtopic.php?f=3&t=224. The software seems to run as expected.
I connected a Blu-Ray drive via USB to my Linux Mint (Ubuntu) powered workstation. Additionally, it's powered with an external power supply to make sure USB power is not a problem. The drive works fine, the Blu-Ray disk in question works fine. I can watch the movie via vlc player.
When starting MakeMKV with debug log enabled, I see this output when trying to access the disk:
The software keeps showing "Loading disk" on the screen but doesn't do anything else. It's stuck at this point.
Creating an ISO file from the same Blu-Ray with dd and opening the image with MakeMKV, everything works fine, and I get the same debug output as above followed by
So, how can I narrow this down? I don't get any debug information besides the above mentioned, no errors either in the debug log or ring buffer or anywhere else...
