No Disc on new windows 11 PC

Hi All,
Hopefully not a novice error. I am using Matshita BD-MLT UJ272 external drive. I built a new windows 11 pc for gaming. Previously I was on a 7 year old PC using this same drive and it was working fine (used it on the same day I finished new PC). Now, MakeMKV and windows recognize the drive, but do not recognize any bluray discs (I only have blurays). MakeMKV says no disk and if I try the drive in windows, it ejects the drive and says add disc. I have tried a different USB ports, restarts, I checked for device drivers in device manager and uninstalled the drive and restarted. Nothing seems to work. The drive does not appear to spin up. MakeMKV can eject the disc and the icon registers it is open. Any ideas? Happy to provide any relevant information.

7 (seven!!?!) years old, really? And how old is the drive? Did ripping a Blu-Ray work on the old machine with the old drive?
Maybe this (old-fashioned) Hardware and new Software (Windows 11) causes a problem.
And I think Blu-ray-handling is in makeMKV different than DVD (maybe NOT costless).

The machine I'm typing this on is 8 years old and it rips blu-rays and UHDs all the time.
It does not cost extra for MakeMKV to rip blu-rays.
Does the drive work a DVD or a regular audio CD?

I am having this same issue on Windows 10 Pro.
Verbatim slim external USB-C 3.2g1 with BU40N internally
I updated with the SDFtool Flasher (v1.3.6), trying the three different firmware versions shown here.
BU50N: HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU50N-1.00-NM00100-211711211006
BU40N-N-Main: HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-NM00500-212005061142
/old: HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.03-NM00000-211810241934
Between each firmware updates, I have unplugged the drive, waiting a moment, plugged back in.
I have two of these drives, one of which worked just fine and I've backed up several of my blu-ray and 4K media.
Is there anyone that has ideas to resolve this?

You should never have flashed BU50N firmware to it!!! Try using "recovery" of SDFtool Flasher and follow the window title's instruction.

Son of a motherless goat! I have an appointment to get my eyes checked. lol. I didn't see the 5 - thought it was a 4.
Okay, I have selected the "wrong" firmware of the 50:
BU50N/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU50N-1.00-NM00100-211711211006
and selected:
BU40N-N-Main/HL-DT-ST-BD-RE_BU40N-1.04-NM00500-212005061142
The flash was successful and I power cycled the drive. However, it still has the same issue when I put in a disc "No Disc". Any other suggestions?

Clean your disc. Also, BU40N 1.03-MK if recommended over 1.04-MK. It is in the /old folder of the MK firmware pack or is in my all you need firmware pack. Personally, I put BU40N 1.00 on them as for UHD discs, it is compatible with all popular ripping software.
How is the drive connected? You should use ports direct from the motherboard (USB-C if possible, otherwise USB 3+) or an AC self-powered USB hub of at least 30w.

Several discs, all cleaned with a microfiber cloth. Audio CD, DVD, Blu-ray (haven't tried 4k).
Connected via USB-C direct to motherboard.
I did go back and try the 1.03 in the /old folder with the same result. I will try the 1.00.
When I put in a disc, I can hear it seek.
An identical drive I flashed with 1.04 is working fine.

Could be dirty or dead lasers. Try cleaning them first.
