First "protected" Blu Ray is kicking my butt - John Wick 3

Hi all,

I know this is an older title, but it's the first disc I've come across with an "obfuscated" playlist.

I believe I've determined the right file on the disc to rip using the post here on the John Wick 3 disc. I also played it with VLC and used Process Monitor to determine the same playlist. MakeMKV doesn't highlight any as the most likely "main feature", even with JRE installed.

But when I rip, I get nothing but errors every time. The disc does have a couple of scratches, but it's by no means the worst Blu Ray I've ever seen or ripped.

Is it possible this is a function of the quality of the disc (scratches), or could I have something else not set up properly to rip this type of "protected" disc?

Using WH16NS60 1.02 and MakeMKV v1.17.9.

Those error messages mean the drive is having trouble reading parts of the disc. You can try gently cleaning the disc, but if the disc has scratches, you might need to get another copy of the disc. If you have a different optical drive, you could try that as well. In my experience, often times the same disc in a different drive will produce different results. Not always, of course, but it is the reason I have 4 different drives.

Thanks for your response. I suspected this was the case.

I tried a different flash on my drive (the Asus flash since it's an Asus drive), with similar results but slightly different error messages.

Since I've got nothing to lose, I tried a gentle polishing on the disc with some very mild automotive polishes. The scratches remain, so I suspect there are one or two causing a more significant issue.

It was a $2 disc purchase at a flea market, formerly a library copy out of San Diego, so I guess some purchases like this are expected to not work out.

Being the first that had obfuscation, I was concerned I didn't have something set up properly.
