Hi everyone,
I’m trying to decrypt a Blu-ray disc using MakeMKV, but I keep getting the error:
“This disc uses a newer version of AACS protection”
followed by:
“The volume key is unknown for this disc – video can’t be decrypted.”
Here's what I've tried so far without success:
- Downloaded the latest keydb.cfg (confirmed my disc isn't listed)
- Used FindVUK along with DvDFab to find the VUK

- FindVUK失败.png (225.83 KiB) Viewed 3750 times
I created two different dump files (attached for reference):
- MKB_v82_Morfonica_2nd_Album「Polyphony」【Blu-ray付生産限定盤】_3962.tgz: Generated by opening the disc directly in MakeMKV.
- MKB_v82_BRMM_10891BD_3962.tgz: Result of attempting a backup/decryption in MakeMKV (failed).
And here's the output from MakeMKV:
Code: Select all
MakeMKV v1.17.9 win(x64-release) started
Using direct disc access mode
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.
This disc uses newer version of AACS protection. Please let us know about it by visiting http://www.makemkv.com/a/?9l+2i9tBF2TbgQ...
Saved AACS dump file as C:\Users\USERNAME/.MakeMKV/MKB_v82_Morfonica_2nd_Album「Polyphony」【Blu-ray付生産限定盤】_3962.tgz
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Failed to open disc
Backing up disc into folder "C:/Video/backup/BRMM_10891BD"
This disc uses newer version of AACS protection. Please let us know about it by visiting http://www.makemkv.com/a/?IcKNw9VyFuNU0d...
Saved AACS dump file as C:\Users\USERNAME/.MakeMKV/MKB_v82_BRMM_10891BD_3962.tgz
The volume key is unknown for this disc - video can't be decrypted
Backup failed

That's cause the software can't handle AACS v82 yet. You will just have to wait for a software update.

Your disc has recently been added to the public keydb. Re-download the keydb and you will be able to backup/decrypt your disc with MakeMKV without waiting for the next update.
If you are still having trouble after updating your local keydb, please follow my instructions
here or use SamuriHL's utility for Windows (

Sorry to bother everyone in this threads, but could you please give these dumps a chance to be keys to be updated to keydb.cfg?
I reported these to both MakeMKV report line(link after failure) and some kinda e-mail address but still don't know how to report to VUK forum...
Thanks in advance.
+Just checked keys my dump had updated. Thanks for super-speed updates!

Hello,
I'm having the same issue now with a more recent disc.
https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Jawan-Blu-ray/383753/
I've attached the AACS Dump File. I've already emailed it to
svq@makemkv.com, and had no response yet.
Any advice on this matter would be appreciated.

You won't get a response if that's what you're waiting for. MakeMKV will simply add them to the hashed keys that get downloaded periodically by MakeMKV.
Additionally by providing the dump here in the forum, others can take that dump and add the key to the public KeyDB which can then be downloaded and extracted to the MakeMKV data directory (where the dump file is created).
And finally, I wrote a tool to help automate some of the processes around all this. It can sync the latest KeyDB and automatically copy it to the proper MakeMKV directory. It can also, if you follow the links in my post, handle adding V82 discs to the KeyDB on your own provided you go acquire the proper device key from the links I added and update your keydb.cfg with said device key. My tool is a Windows only tool at this time and can be found here:
viewtopic.php?f=12&t=16883&p=166510#p166510
Remember, my tool does not contain any keys. You will have to provide them in order for it to work.

There is a record for your disc in the latest KeyDB file. Download it and add it to your MakeMKV data folder (where the dumps are saved) and you should be able to rip it.
