Disc read fails despite prior success

Does anyone out there know what might lead to a "newer encryption" error on a disc that has previously opened just fine on the same drive? Its one of the James Bond films in the 007 Bluray collection, and it has opened fine on the same drive in the past, the only difference is that drive has the patched firmware now. I did notice that apparently the software key expired, but the application was opened when the key was still active, and the disc immediately before it worked fine, so I don't know if that would be the issue our not.
