Doctor Who Series 5 Vol 2 (UK)

Hi there, this blu-ray seems to rip successfully, but Handbrake reports "No valid source", so I have tried to rip the individual titles to .mkv files and again this seems to complete successfully but there is no video, only audio, although each files is circa 10GB. I've tried to play the mkv files back in Roxio Toast and VLC with no luck.

The log files shows no errors!

I'm in the process of ripping the disc again to post the log file, but I'd appreciate any initial comments.

TIA

It's almost certainly the case that the video is VC-1 interlaced. You mentioned Toast which is a Mac program? If you're on a Mac I can't offer any advice as to what will help you play back or process the file.

The MakeMKV log file won't tell us very much as MakeMKV did it's job and extracted the audio and video to an MKV file.. Try using mediaInfo and posting the details of the file here. Someone with more knowledge of Mac solutions will be able to help.

Hi, thanks for the quick response... It is a VC-1 file and MediaInfo says:

Code: Select all

English, 32.2Mbps, 1920*1080 (16:9), at 25.00 fps, VC-1 (Microsoft) (AP@L3)
This is from the mkv file I created.

I've got access to other OS's if that helps?

Can you click the view menu in MediaInfo and change it to "text" then copy and paste all of it into the forum?

Thanks!

My machine is tied up at the moment but in about 20 mins it'll be free. I have a BBC disc with similar encoding. Let me have a fiddle and see what I can use to play it back on Windows 7.

That's very kind... My ultimate goal is to convert this to something that my AppleTV 2 can play, if that helps?

Try downloading the latest version of Handbrake from here: https://build.handbrake.fr/ and see if it can process the file.

Update: The Mac builds are here: https://build.handbrake.fr/view/All/job/Mac/

Try both the windows and the Mac builds, I've no idea how similar they are.

Did you have any luck with the Nightly builds of Handbrake?

I was able to play back my VC-1 interlaced video using Windows Media Player with the Haali Media Splitter. I am unable to test Handbrake at the moment as I'm working.

I'm told that RipBot264 will process the file, but it's Windows only I'm afraid. I've asked all the Mac people I know about tools on to complete the same process on OSX and I get either blank looks or I see terror in their eyes.

It's been a while since I used Ripbot but I'm fairly sure it has an AppleTV profile.
