I tried MakeMKV v1.17.5 win(x64-release) with Windows 10.
I have a Pioneer BD-RW BDR209M. This is built into an HTPC system, connected by SATA. It is not a USB external drive.
After inserting the disc, MakeMKV scanned a disc and took about 10 minutes. The log had several messages like

Code: Select all

Error 'OS error - This device does not exist' ....

I exited MakeMKV and restarted.

Now it says:

Code: Select all

The program can't find any usable optical drives

.

Now I cannot eject the disc from the drive. The button does nothing. The LED is off.
Computer Management for the drive says:

Code: Select all

This device cannot start. (Code 10)
STATUS_DEVICE_POWER_FAILURE

I'm not sure how it could have a power failure since it is connected to a 550W ATX power supply and the computer is still running fine otherwise.

Does the drive show up in device manager?
To find out type in Device Manager in the Start Menu/Search Box and click on device manager.
The Disc Drive should show up here.

If it does show up in device manager but no in This PC.
Type in diskmgmt.msc in the Start Menu/Search Box and click on the result.
Here you will see "Local" on the left plane, click on it.
Now you will see all the drives connected.
Find the Disc Drive, right click it and select Assign Drive Letter, give it any letter
Click OK and now the drive should mount with a drive letter.

But if the drive shows up in This PC
Does the drive spin up at all when you insert a disc
If it does, does it identify the disc inserted?

Whilst 550W is more than enough to run a HTPC, the drive MAY be faulty if it is coming up with errors like drive does not exist as well as power failure.
You can try power cycling the computer or if you are able, open the case up, disconnect the power connector and sata connector on the drive and reinsert them, not a bad idea to make sure the SATA cable is inserted correctly into the motherboard, you can also try changing ports on the motherboard as some SATA ports do not like certain drives(SATA2 vs SATA3).

The SATA port may also be configured incorrectly in the UEFI/BIOS.
Make sure the type is set to AUTO and not CD or something else and make sure hot swapping is enabled as well as some motherboards have it disabled for some reason.
