Ripping 4k blurays on Linux

Anyone have any experience ripping 4k blurays(many Disney) on Linux? I looked on the makemkv forums, and I'm getting somewhat confused about flashing an LG BU40N and then ripping the blurays, it seems more straightforward on Windows, but I would prefer not to spawn up a Windows vm if I don't have to. A lot of the makemkv stuff seems several years old if not a decade plus, so I don't know if it will work on a modern distribution to rip modern Disney 4k blurays. From what I understand Disney DRM is the worst? So if I can rip my Disney movies I should be able to rip everything else? I was looking at the BU40N on thinkpenguin, but I haven't purchased it yet so if there's any better hardware for this, please lmk.

Buy a preflashed drive so you don't have to work about flashing
Makemkv is updated very regularly and I would say it's the best at handling 4K discs and drives. It will handle most 4K disc only problem ones are aacs2.1 but those are rare.
