i found something out in my ripping adventures.

Post by relly0 »

so for the first few months of owning a new 4k blue ray drive on my pc, i tried using the software and it would straight up not dump movies without errors, or just outright fail.

i was freaking out wondering what i did wrong, did i flash the wrong firmware? did i drop kick my drive? did it not like the look i just gave it?

i couldn't figure out why my drive was doing this. i was very confused and in a last ditch effort, i switched the usb ports to my motherboards built in usb 3.2 ports. and it worked! it didn't like my front usb ports and failed to dump anything.

my front usb ports were connected via a usb 3.0 data header on my motherboard. and that caused my dumps to fail every. single. time.

i almost threw out a perfectly good drive by overlooking a basic troubleshooting step.

folks, don't be like me! check to make sure your usb ports are not the issue.

Front USB ports are often under-powered.

And usually not even 2.0.
