I have a Japanese Bluray movie that MakeMKV get stuck on when trying to read the disc.
If I open MakeMKV first and then insert the disc, MakeMKV stuck on loading.
If I insert the Disc first and then open MakeMKV, it stuck on Scanning CD-ROM devices.
I tried it on different version of Mac OS and Windows on different computers with same issue.
I can play the disc using VLC without any issues. I can play the disc on my PS5 without any issues.
MakeMKV loads other Bluray movies fine.
Below is the debug output. Any idea what could be causing this?

Is this a normal BluRay or a UHD?
If a normal BluRay maybe aacs info can give some information about the disk:
- aacs_info.zip
- Retrieving AACS information from a BluRay
- (755.74 KiB) Downloaded 179 times
(
Virustotal link)
Can't imagine there's an AACS info, that MakeMKV can't handle but one never knows. It's a command line tool:
Usage: aacs_info <path-to-disc-root>

Bluray - At least that is what it says on the box. It doesn't mention anything about UHD.
Also there is no AACS folder on the Disc. Just BDMV and CERTIFICATE folders only.

Thats interesting. I have not seen an official movie BluRay yet without AACS. I have one with AACSv1. probably just for the company to be able to print "this disc is copy protected" onto it or something.
Can you try to copy the contents of the BluRay onto the hard disk and with MakeMKV then you go File -> Open files -> from your copy select BDMV\index.bdmv as file to open.

I was able to copy the contents of the Bluray onto hard drive. Had to use Teracopy to copy otherwise drive will constantly make noises.
I was also able to open the index.bdmv file and extract the main movie. However, it did not finish extracting and would get stuck.
It had lots of
"source file is corrupt or invalid at offset, attempting to work around" error
and
"Too many AV synchronization issues in file"
How do I get Makemkv not to load the disc but instead let me select the index.bdmv directly from the Disc?

I'm afraid that's something I don't know. Maybe via the command line aka makemkvcon64.exe
If it would be my disk, I probably would try now to take MkvToolnix and add the index.bdmv to it. Then it'll scan all playlists and one could try to select the Main movie there and mix it into a MKV (can also deselect unwanted languages there).

I was able to figure out a way around it. Disconnect the Bluray drive, launch MakeMKV so it does not detect the drive, plug the Bluray drive back in, then use the open file to open the index.bdmv directly from the disc. Right now it is still trying to extract the movies and is taking a long time and also having same errors.
Not sure about the MkvToolnix, let me do research on that. Thank you for your assistance!!!

I to am having trouble with a Japanese blu. A tokusatsu show from the 60s, still 4:3 format, so you wouldn't expect remastered quality. It just so happens to be burnt onto a blu ray disc instead of a DVD.
What make of drive do you have? Mine is an external Hitachi-LG and it has no problems reading region A/B blu's,as it's a multi region blu ray/writer.
Disc isn't recognised and I just get a message in MKV - No disc inserted.
I've contacted Hitachi and they were no help. Asking if the disc was UHD.
