Tried to rip my blu-ray multiple times, then it failed

I bought a Japanese blu ray and got "failed to open file."

The "failed to open file" complaint must be a dime in a dozen. However, I want to provide the circumstances that might have led to this error message.
  • I am using a mac, and I need conversion usbs to connect it to my Verbatim. Complication 1.
  • When I tried to run makemkv on my disc, my Verbatim player keeps running out of power, losing connection to my mac and interrupting the ripping process, making the rips incomplete. Complication 2.
  • By the time I got a stable connection between my Verbatim player and my mac, any attempts to rip the disc ends in the "failed to open file" message.
  • Makemkv worked on every other blu ray disc I own, with no interruptions.
I have sent the dump files to svq@makemkv.com. I know that this is freeware and it would take some time for this issue to be resolved. I just want to know if other people have the same problem with having a rip interrupted too many times, and not being able to rip its contents again.

Get a high powered USB hub then makemkv can't fix your power issue by sending in a dump.

The drives I use with my Mac are in self powered enclosures, but a high powered USB hub is a useful thing. I like the Plugable hub: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B075NMVGP7/

In any case, if the drive can't read the disc, perhaps try gently cleaning the disc.

I had four discs from the same series, and ripped all four discs using the same player. Only one of them consistently has a "fail to open disc" message even if the player didn't disconnect.

I repeated rips on the other discs with the same player and did not have this issue, so I am sure the problem is unique to this disc.
