Confusion about mkv and mvc formats

I am thinking about investing in a 3d bluray system for my home theater, but i do not understand whether or not my projector can play the files. My projector supports mkv files but says nothing about mvc. Am i able to play the discs without needing to convert them or do i need a new projector?
