Pixar's Luca (BD) [RB]

Post by Midwest Mike »

Hello all. I've been using MakeMKV for a while and searching the forum to find the correct playlist when there are multiple (fake) playlists. That has pretty much worked as someone has always requested the movie I'm looking for. This is the first time I'm trying to find the list on a movie that no one else has requested, which at long last has prompted me to register.

It should be a relatively easy one to find as there are only 3 main feature playlists on the Redbox 'Luca'. Info is as follows:

Source file name: 00800.mpls
Duration: 1:35:15
Chapters count: 37
Size: 25.7 GB
Segment count: 60
Segment map: 1339,1340,1341,1342,1343,1344,1438,1347,1348,1349,1350,1351,1352,1353,1354,1355,1356,1357,1358,1359,1360,1361,1362,1363,1364,1365,1366,1367,1368,1369,1370,1371,1372,1373,1374,1375,1376,1377,1378,1379,1380,1381,1382,1383,1384,1385,1386,1387,1388,1389,1390,1391,1392,1393,1394,1395,1396,1397,1398,1399

I have looked at some of the threads with the instructions on how to determine the correct playlist but they come across as intimidating to a first timer. Kind of like rebuilding a transmission... it may be easy-peasey for people who work in a transmission shop and do it 40 hrs every week, but for the rest of us it's brain surgery. Maybe if there's a video online somewhere walking first timers through the process, that would demystify it.

Anyhow, since there are only 3 versions on this disc, not hundreds, the easy short-term solution is to just rip all of them and later delete the 2 fakes. Which I can determine by watching them or (hopefully) someone here may come up with the correct list.

Thanks in advance. This is a terrific community. I've got a Rb code expiring tonight (Tue 9/21/21) for anyone who can help me out and would like it. (I assume there is a way to send via private message on here. I just registered a few minutes ago.)

Pixar is a Disney property.

Disney "almost always" has the English version as 00800mpls, with Spanish and French as alternative titles.

The difference is in the title and credit portions, where the text is in English, Spanish, or French.

Great to know. Thank you! I'll just go with the first one (00800.mpls) then.

Woodstock,
I thought about your comment and realized that if the only differences were at the title & credit portions, then the segment maps should be pretty much identical, except for those portions. And at a glance, the 3 maps looked very different. So I stacked them side-by-side in a spreadsheet to compare more easily. Many of the segments lined up across all 3, but 00800 was the "odd man out" in only one segment, 802 in 3 segments, and 801 differed from the others in 28, or nearly half of all segments. (see attached screen shot) I'm not sure if that signifies anything, but I think I'll still rip all 3 versions and come back later with the answer.

You will likely find signs in the video in each of those differing segments. And each point will have the language matches the titles/credits.

this is correct. the 'signs' is referred to are any written content on the screen when you watch the video. for example a Wanted poster or some store sign or other things written in English (800) and then in Spanish (801)....
