HP BD-RE BU20N doesn't work

Post by RedStylzZ »

Hello together,

I just got gifted an optical drive (HP BD-RE BU20N). I ordered an USB to SATA adapter (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B073XG ... UTF8&psc=1) and tried to use the drive with MakeMKV.
But when I start up MakeMKW it prints out:

MakeMKV v1.16.4 win(x64-release) started
The program can't find any usable optical drives.

Does anybody has a clue why this happens?

Does the drive show up in Explorer? Windows has to acknowledge the drive for it to report it to MakeMKV. Windows also has to have given MakeMKV access to it as a removable drive, which is part of their "Ransomware" permissions.

Hey, yes the drive is visible in the Explorer. I already copied the drive with another Programm to test if I could rip just the .iso.
Windows didn't block the program, at least there was no message.

Today I tried it with copying the same Blu Ray and the same program as yesterday. I inserted the .iso file to MakeMKV but it wasn't able to decrypt the file. I also mounted the file to my system and tried to decrypt it but it didn't work.
Then I tried another program to decrypt the file and then ripped it with MakeMKV. Does somebody have an idea how to fix that?

I searched for it yesterday until I saw that my ransomware protection isn't turned on. Where would be the option to add MakeMKV to the whitelist?
