Failing Drive/More AV sync issues?

Hi guys-
I've been using my laptop BD drive for years now w/o issue. As of late I've been getting a lot of AV sync issues that give me time stamps of the issue. This occurs on multiple different Blu-ray discs. A few times, i'll get the error that there are too many AV sync issues. But despite the AV sync issues, the operation will successfully complete.
When I try backing up the disc with my external LG WH16NS60, I don't get the AV sync issues.
Is my laptop drive failing? Should I just backup using my external or does the fact that I get "successfully complete" mean that the file is fine? Thanks in advance.
