A year later, and I finally got around to this lol... I'm often on a hunt to find the best release of a film, but in my early buying days I was more often just picking up the CA releases. So here are my latest findings on eOne's CA release of Source Code, and please forgive the length of this!
I might still get the US release for a final comparison, but for now I'm comparing the UK release to the CA release, believing the CA to be close if not identical to the US (unlike other films, no logos from Canadian distributor eOne were added to the movie itself, and the bitrates match the playlist report from caps-a-holic - the only difference seems to be that CA has French, US has Spanish). Don't get the original UK release. It has a weird 1 second of off-black at the start, and then the opening Optimum logo sits still on the screen for way too long... because it has to match the length of the US Summit logo, since the film's soundtrack plays underneath the logos. The encode of the UK release is not great. Fine gradations in the CA release turn into banding in the UK release, most noticeably in all the scenes inside the capsule. Your mileage may vary depending on the setup of your display.
The UK release has an average bitrate of 22.673, while the CA release has an average bitrate of 27.885.
As for the CA release, it seems to be a pre-Java obfuscation attempt, so MakeMKV doesn't detect it.
There are 3 candidate playlists for CA, given the proper number of chapters and the movie length. 756 is identical to 834 but has too many subtitles. 768 and 834 have 1 segment different - 147 and 3 - but upon visual and MediaInfo inspection of the different m2ts files, I then confirmed that they were identical using WinDiff file comparison. So believing both should be fine, I arbitrarily chose the first one 768, confirming that it has subtitles for both the feature and the audio commentary. As expected from the obfuscation branching, it had A/V Sync Errors using MakeMKV 1.15.4. I'll watch it shortly, but I'm not expecting any issues based on checking through the segments.
