TOP GUN Blu-ray Rip Error

Post by Bobhoff » Thu Jan 05, 2012 6:35 pm

Did a quick search and couldn't find anything, but I've tried ripping the Top Gun Blu-ray multiple times and keep getting this error:

Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00001.M2ts' at offset '14588313600'

I've ripped maybe 20 Blu-rays in the past with MakeMKV and have never had a problem with a disc until now. With the Top Gun disc, however, it gets about halfway done, the disc stops spinning, and then I get the message mentioned above.

I'm on an early 2009 MacBook Pro running OSX Lion 10.7.2 with MakeMKV 1.7.0.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Code: Select all

Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00001.M2ts' at offset '14588313600'
The error literally means the drive can't read the disc.

This is not a copy protection issue. There is no copy protection that can cause this.

There are 2 possibilities:
1. The disc is damaged, dirty, or poorly manufactured.
2. Your drive is failing.

Option 1 is much more likely, return it and get a new disc.

Cool, thanks. I'm a bit new to this whole thing, but that makes sense. I'll see what I can do.

You're welcome! I'm just glad you didn't try and tell me any of these things:
  • "The disc looks fine!"
  • "It plays ok in my blu-ray player!"
  • "I've already swapped it twice and I get the same error again!"
The answer to each of these replies is:
1. You can't always see the defect.
2. Ripping a disc requires bit-for-bit perfection in the rip process; playback does not.
3. Lots of times a bad batch will be pressed.

Anyway, good luck and post back if you have more issues!
