trueblood 2 seasons, multiple disks, multiple drives same failures

Post by icbm1 » Thu Oct 30, 2025 8:35 pm

I am trying to rip 2 seasons of Trueblood on Bluray, a total of 10 disks. I have 2 different LG drives, and all the disks fail in the same way with SCSI errors and offset errors. The documentation would lead to think the disks are damaged and some are kinda rough but most are in good condition. I tried two different LG drives, BP60NB10 (USB Slim) and BU40N (SATA Slim).

It just feels unlikely that all the disks would be bad that they won't rip but play in our sony player fine. I went and tried some disks we ripped earlier and they worked fine to test the drives.

All the disks fail in the same way with errors similar to:

Code: Select all

Is this some sort of manufacturing shenanigans? They are older disks just statistically for all 10 disks in 2 drives to fail the same way but still playing prompted me to post.

Errors like this:

Error 'Scsi error - MEDIUM ERROR:L-EC UNCORRECTABLE ERROR' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00027.m2ts' at offset '389677056'

mean that the drive was unable to correctly read a spot on the disc. The standard advice is to gently clean the disc and try again.

A regular disc player, like your Sony, is designed to ignore read errors and hope that you don't notice the visual or audio glitch that results.

Yeah that is why I posted everything I found said that also.
But to have the same behavior on 10 disks (and I did wipe them but didn't go as far as soap & water), on 2 different drives, same behavior other blu rays don't have the same issue.

It just felt statistically odd. I didn't know if this was done intentionally as some sort of extra copy protection. When I tried it on my linux machine I see all the teltail read issues in dmesg,

It just statistically feels unlikely,

These are older disks, I don't recall know exactly when, but they are probably 10 years old. Is diskrot a thin with HBO BluRays?
