Could I re-author 3 DVD-9 discs into one DVD image and burn that to a 25GB Blu-ray on UDF 2.01 (or 2.5) and have a set-top Blu-ray player play it as a DVD? What really makes a DVD a DVD to a set-top player?
I know the answer is "Try It" but I don't have a set-top Blu-ray player anymore. I quickly perused the UDF 2.5 spec and didn't see a reason why not, at least not as far as the filesystem goes: https://dev.ecma-international.org/wp-c ... r_2023.pdf
DVD on Blu-ray for set-top player?
Re: DVD on Blu-ray for set-top player?
If you're going to author a disc anyway, why not make it a proper blu-ray that just has 3 standard definition items to choose in the blu-ray menu? Then the set-top player will play it as a blu-ray that has SD content.
Re: DVD on Blu-ray for set-top player?
Never done that and it escapes me why you would do that. I would try (if you only care for the main movies): 1) Rip all main movies to MKV. 2) Combine the 3 MKVs with MKVToolnix 3) Load the combined MKV in TSMuxer and mux to BluRay ISO 4) Burn with Imgburn.flojo wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 2:21 pmCould I re-author 3 DVD-9 discs into one DVD image and burn that to a 25GB Blu-ray on UDF 2.01 (or 2.5) and have a set-top Blu-ray player play it as a DVD? With the whole DVD content it will be much more complicated and you will need an authoring software.
Re: DVD on Blu-ray for set-top player?
Oh OK, I didn't realize I could use below 720p for Blu-ray. Is there a free quick and dirty Blu-ray menu creator, template based? Combining them would be O.K. I guess, although seek past the previous movie to the next would be a little awkward.
I kind of know how to use Scenarist SD, and Scenarist BD claims to be able to import SD projects, but if I have to author I'd prefer something free (non-pirated at least).

That's too much work in my opinion and a steep learning curve. But interesting if you have a lot of time.flojo wrote: ↑Tue Sep 16, 2025 4:25 pmOh OK, I didn't realize I could use below 720p for Blu-ray. And why do you want to do this massive work? Set-top Bluray players also play DVDs. So just make 3 copies- done.
