Re-Animator (Arrow Video Limited Edition)

Post by stuckinkodiagain » Mon Aug 14, 2017 7:18 am

Hello!

I'm having trouble creating MKV's from the new Arrow Video limited edition version of "Re-Animator," released on blu-ray on August 8, 2017. Both the "Unrated" and "Integral" versions of the movie (on two separate blu-ray discs) fail to copy without giving a specific error report.

I should note that my PC blu-ray drive works perfectly with other blu-ray discs, and that BOTH "Re-Animator" discs play perfectly on my separate blu-ray player. This is definitely not an issue with my drive, and the fact that both discs fail to copy (but play perfectly) leads me to believe this is a separate issue entirely.

Any help would be great!

Activate debug logging (if you haven't already) and include the log in your reply (don't try attaching it, just put it in the message). The log itself will show more information than what appears in the log window.

Details in the FAQ in my signature.

I can try and post more tonight, but with debug mode enabled, the errors I get within MakeMKV from the Integral version are:

Mike will have to translate what the debug messages mean. This evening, follow the instructions in the FAQ and send the log and information files to support@makemkv.com for evaluation. Especially if the error seems to happen at the same point in multiple rips.

While it is possible this is something weird that needs to be addressed in MakeMKV, you might also try cleaning the disks. Yes, even if they're new. :) More and more disks seem to have chemicals used in packaging that migrate to the BD surface, and cause problems.

Woodstock,

Thanks again for your help. I've tried cleaning both discs, but no dice. I've e-mailed all the files and information you suggested to Mike... Hopefully something comes of it!

I am also having this issue. Since we have the output from the Integral disc, I'm adding the Unrated Disk debug log:

Interestingly enough, all of the other titles on the disc rip without issue.

I have also cleaned the discs and verified there aren't any visible issues. I've tried with multiple readers (I use portable BR drives) -
BD-RE ASUS SBW-06C1S-U
BD-ROM MATSUSHITA BD-CMB UJ-120
BD-RE BUFFALO Optical Drive

All exhibit the same errors.

I would suggest packaging up the debug log with the other information asked for in the FAQ link in my signature, and sending them to support@makemkv.com for Mike to look at. Debug messages have specific meanings to the program, but only he has the information to decode what they mean.

Strange that it would complain about the LPCM filter - is your profile asking that LPCM be converted to something else? I rip LPCM tracks on a regular basis, but I do not have any conversions being done.

Sure

Nope. This is maybe the first time I've seen it. My profile is the default with a couple of added selections:
"-sel:all,+sel:(eng|nolang),-sel:core,-sel:havelossless,+sel:attachment"

FYI, it's definitely not my disks. I was able to rip both with DVDFab HD Decrypter and I'm able to play the files with Media Player Classic.

Unfortunately even when I submit the disc image to MakeMKV after the fact, it knows it's an unencrypted disc but gives the same error. It looks like it's not an encryption issue.

Not sure why the whole message board reverted to an older series of posts... But wanted to note to the powers-that-be that the new version off MakeMKV (1.10.7) does NOT fix this issue with "Re-Animator." I'm pretty sure that was also the case for user donholio, who also tried "Re-Animator" with the latest version of MakeMKV, with no luck.

Thanks again to the developer for your help!

Hey guys, is there any update on the Arrow Video blu-ray release of "Re-Animator?"

Would love to know if a fix is in the works!

I received an email from support a few days ago. I provided them a couple of debug dumps they wanted from both discs. I'm hoping that means a fix is in the works.

If you need a solution now, there is at least one free blu-ray ripping solution out there. I used it to rip TS (container) files from the disk and used mkvtoolnix to re-containerize them into MKV files.
