No Blu-rays are working, not even from ISOs

#1 Post by cjlee89 » Sun Jan 19, 2014 2:30 pm

Hello everyone! Hopefully you can help me.

OS: Windows Server 2012r2 VM
VMWare ESXi 5.5 host

Drive: BDDVDW SE-506BB, Revision: TS00 (latest firmware)
MakeMKV: v1.8.7

Code: Select all

Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:INVALID COMMAND OPERATION CODE' occurred while issuing SCSI command A30..0020..03F to device 'SPTI:\Device\CdRom0'
DEBUG: Code 0 at pR;G#2iJ8-{j?zM'P:213130743
DEBUG: Code 0 at yK1.<J0jReYo]=X?hv:121262946
This is happening on all Blu-rays. imgburn was able to make an ISO successfully but I got the same errors even with the ISO. The program fails at file MKB_RO.inf. I have tried to attach the log but I get a message saying "Sorry, the board attachment quota has been reached."

Let me know if you need anything other information.

Most likely, the ISO was "damaged" by the same failure that MakeMKV reported, but the ISO software simply passed over it.

How is the drive attached to the system? There are similar errors that can occur with some USB drives, but they should not happen with an internal drive.

The virtual machine complicates things, as the drive may be getting commands filtered at a level below what the operating system can accurately report. If DVDs work, but BDs do not, the drive might be enforcing AACS restrictions, without letting MakeMKV pass the proper key though.

Drive is plugged in via USB and then passed through to the guest.

DVD seemed to make it further but with different errors.
Drive BD-RE TSSTcorp BDDVDW SE-506BB TS00 has RPC protection that can not be bypassed. Change drive region or update drive firmware from http://tdb.rpc1.org. Errors likely to follow.
Several of these errors follow:

Code: Select all

Error 'Scsi error - ILLEGAL REQUEST:READ OF SCRAMBLED SECTOR WITHOUT AUTHENTICATION' occurred while reading '/VIDEO_TS/VTS_09_1.VOB' at offset '2048'
So maybe this samsung drive has restrictions built in? Has this drive been known not to work with MakeMKV? If so, I can certainly return and try another disc.

It does seem the VMWare is handling the drive ok.
