AACS v35 Problems with Ubuntu 12.10 (MakeMKV 1.8.7)

#1 Post by AliasXNeo » Wed Jan 01, 2014 4:16 am

Greetings,

I'm attempting to rip some blu-ray's for the first time and am coming across AACS encryption errors. The odd thing here is the version it's hanging up on...

Code: Select all

Can't read AACS VID from disc - .....
Highest AACS version is v35
Looking at the changelog, it looks like that version was supposed to be supported quite a few patches back. Even more odd to me is that switching over to Windows 7 using the exact same version (1.8.7) of MakeMKV is working without any issues. Why would the linux version being using different keys than the Windows version? Or is this an entirely different problem altogether.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Ubuntu 12.10 may still be supported by Canonical and blueprint devs, but not nessarly by everyone else. Try updating the latest version of Ubuntu (13.10) and try again as 12.10 still shipped with kernel 3.5. I have ran in Arch and Gentoo with no issues as well as Ubuntu 13.04

I may try that, but I would like to try other less drastic means before upgrading the entire OS.

You might want to see if the version of openSSL is a problem (see the Fedora sticky topic for more information). Even seemingly minor security updates can sometimes change software versions on you when you least expect it.

That was the first post I referenced (despite me not running Fedora) since it aligned with the problem I was having. Unfortunately the solution of editing the makefile did not fix my problem.
