First Error

#1 Post by New2MacMark » Wed Dec 25, 2013 7:02 pm

Hello All - I purchased the MakeMKV software after using the trial version (even though I'm still in the trial period) and love it. I attempted to use it for the movie 300 and received the following error message :Profile parsing error: Specified conversion filter (68:A_MS/ACM->LPCMwavex) is not available.

Any help?

Thanks,
Mark

First of all, that error should not affect actual ripping, UNLESS you are trying to use something in the profile that has the error. I learned this when I did my first profile edits...

If you have not been editing a profile recently (these are the *.mmcp.xml files found in your makemkv program directory), one of them has probably been damaged, as LPCMwavex SHOULD be spelled with a hyphen, i.e., "LPCM-wavex".

If you HAVE been editing them, you need to correct the spelling... :)

Thanks for the reply!

There has been no (intentional) editing of any profiles on my part. The only thing I've actually done with the software is open it up and start the ripping process; no adjustments to settings, etc. Based on that what's the best route for correction? Remove the software and download again?

If you've done nothing but install, you probably do not have the advanced menu enabled, so it is your default profile that is screwed up. So, the easy way is to uninstall, make sure the MakeMKV program directory is empty, and re-install.

Advance menu, which allows you select profiles for ripping, is turned on with Tools, General tab, check "Expert Mode". After that, you will have an Advanced tab, which will allow you to select your DEFAULT profile (3 come with MakeMKV, "default", "FLAC", and "WDTV").

Otherwise, you need to edit the files to find in the MakeMKV program directory, to find and correct the misspelling. Doing so might require special privileges on your system, depending upon your security settings (mine require administrator security to be enabled).

Reinstall is just easier when you aren't familiar with doing edits on XML files. While they aren't that complex, and any text editor will work on them, it is easy to forget a < or > character here and there and make them invalid.

Followed the instructions of installing and downloading again with the addition of the Advance Menu and it worked like a charm....until the end of the ripping process. When it attempted to save the file here's the new error message, and note it did appear twice (not sure if that matters or not):
Error 'OS error - (ipc/send) invalid destination port' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00004.m2ts' at offset '8653504512'
Error 'OS error - (ipc/send) invalid destination port' occurred while reading '/BDMV/STREAM/00004.m2ts' at offset '8653504512'

Is this still related to the previous error? Thanks in advance!

No, this error is typically seen on a bus-powered USB optical drive. When you turn them very fast (and MakeMKV can do that!), they use more power than the computer's USB port will provide, and go off-line intermittently.

The fix is to plug it into a POWERED USB hub, or (if it came with one) use the dual-USB cable to suck power from two computer ports at once.

What's really fun is when you have something like a printer that draws too much USB power. You try to print something, and your external hard drives disconnect!

Thanks Woodstock - that did it! I was using a USB hub, but switched to one of ports on the Mac Mini I'm using and it's back to working like a charm.

Does the hub have its own power supply? If so, it might be suspect.

A "fully powered" USB port should be able to feed "up to" 500ma to a device, but an unpowered hub would be dividing the power it gets from the computer (limited to that 500ma) up between devices. That's where the power supply is supposed to make up the difference. A proper hub power supply should be rated at .5 amp (500ma) per port on the hub. So a 4-port hub should have a 5 volt 2 amp power supply.

Been there, My Pioneer BDR-XD04 would draw too much on read errors and would fail. Got a Diamond 4 port usb 3.0 hub with a 3.6amp power adaptor and been ripping away. Invest in a good hub as alot of 4-ports only have a 1.5-2amp supply and will not work even though they are "in spec"
