#1 Post by mitul1971 » Fri Dec 20, 2013 4:13 am

I tried again and still can't seem to backup the BD. Also tried The World's End BD and got a some of the same errors. Wondering if something is wrong with my drive, it does play the movies fine.

MakeMKV v1.8.7 win(x64-release) started
Debug logging enabled, log will be saved as C:\Users\MRP/MakeMKV_log.txt
Backing up disc into folder "D:\/backup/Elysium"
Loaded content hash table, will verify integrity of M2TS files.

Your drive says it can't read the disk. The lack of a LOT of errors points more to a damaged or defective disk than a bad drive.

I was hoping it wasn't my drive but not sure still. I tried ripping 'Scrooged' BD that I just got brand new and that also hit into the SCSI errors. That's 3 for 3 not working on BD ripping so I tried ripping a DVD and had no issues with that. I guess I'll test out some of the ones I already ripped in the past and see what happens. Thanks for the response.

I tried everything under sun from cleaning the Discs to using Compressed Air to clean out the drive of any dust or particles and nothing worked. Finally just for the hell of it I tried one more time to rip and it completed with no errors and then tried another and success again. I can't explain it but I'll take it.

Such is the nature of optical disks. The promise when they came out was that they were more rugged than magnetic media. Well, magnetic media got better, and optical disks did not. :(

For what it is worth, I keep a pump-spray bottle of Pledge furniture polish and a soft cotton rag handy, for when the family returns disks to me. It's amazing what a little wax will do on minor scratches, but a lot of waxes use carriers that will damage disks, which is bad. The spray bottle uses water as the carrier, which is "mostly harmless".
