Region 2 Blu Rays Being Read as DVDs

#1 Post by Vonrentsalot » Wed Dec 10, 2025 4:03 am

I have an ASUS BW-16D1HT. I have included an image of a region 0 result and a region 2 result. Since the region 2 blu ray is reading as a DVD, it is ripping at a much lower quality than it should (at least that's what I suspect). I expect to see a 12-13 GB file for a video that is around 48 minutes, but the rip from the region 2 blu ray is around 3 GB for that amount of time, and the image is noticeably low quality.

I did change the drive's region to region 2 just to see if anything would change, but got the same result. Are the results from the image what we expect to see from reading a region 2 disc? It doesn't seem right if it is such low quality compared to my other rips. Is this fixable?

That first one is a DVD, not a blu-ray disc. Are you sure you didn't insert a DVD?
Cheers :D

I expected it to be a blu ray when buying it and didn't check... you are correct. That's my bad. Thanks for helping me see that, such an obvious thing to miss.

I've had BluRays in the past, where the Bonus Content was on a separate DVD. maybe it's your case as well? If you see a DVD logo on the disc itself, then it most certainly is a DVD.
