I Am Number Four Blu-Ray

#1 Post by Smigma » Fri Aug 19, 2011 2:52 am

This Blu-ray is doing the same thing as the Source Code Blu-ray. It gives 3 identical titles with the same chapter count and timestamps. Has a way been discovered other then ripping each one and watching to make sure you are selecting the correct movie only?

Are you sure it's not just 3 different angles?

Sorry, I'm still new to BR backup, and wasn't aware of "angles". Is that like camera angles? I have no clue? Normally when I run into questions I look here but unfortunately there was not a topic regarding this BR.

If these are "angles" then MakeMKV would show "angle #" next to the title. Starting with 1.6.13 you can see so-called "segment map" for each title in right pane. For blu-ray each item is the name of m2ts file, so at least you would see the differences between titles.

It isn't angles.

There are 3 files, each 25.1GB, 15 Chapters, 1:49:34 duration.

309.mpls
Segment Map: 491,494

310.mpls

311.mpls
Segment Map: 493, 494

Hi!

As a first step, you can use a hex editor to determine whether there are any differences between the following .M2TS files:

491.M2TS
492.M2TS
493.M2TS

If there are NO differences amongst these three.M2TS files (unlikely), you can select any of the following three .MPLS titles:

309.MPLS
310.MPLS
311.MPLS

If there ARE differences amongst the three .M2TS files (unless you are an expert JAVA coder), the only way I know of to determine with certainty which .M2TS is the "real" one for proper movie playback, would be to play and watch each of the three .M2TS files.

Another possibility may be to play the original Blu-ray disc on your PC, using a program such as PowerDVD which, if I remember correctly, has the ability to display the title number being played.

Some standalone players may also make that information available...

It's probably an opening scene in 3 different languages. First segment is language-specific and the rest of the movie is the same. Pick the first one :)
