Hello. I've seen some videos that pointed me here and i'm hoping to transfer my blu-ray and DVD collection to a NAS to be viewed on plex or jellyfin. Is there a good reccomendation for which writer to get (i prefer a writer as well so that i get more bang for the buck and i don't have one yet.

The Ultimate UHD Drives Flashing Guide has a list of recommended drives.

Pioneer drives are considered the best both for ripping and writing if that's your thing. Getting a Pioneer drive that works to rip 4K UHDs with MakeMKV means getting one with old firmware. Recent firmware updates have been put out specifically to disable MakeMKV from ripping 4K UHDs on Pioneer drives. The easiest way to do that is to buy one from a seller in your region; there's a list in the aforementioned Flashing Guide.
